Charles Schridde's paintings, en plein air and in his studio, retain that freshness, vitality and sense of wonder. Inspired by the works of George Inness, Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh, Schridde adroitly captures and records those fragile moments when the quiet majesty of the day is most seductive and alluring, Using deep tonal contrasts, he selects moments of twilight as in Lake of Sunset Dreams or The River Blue and produces work of such transcendental harmony and spiritual beauty that our souls find momentary respite from the rigors of the day.
Like the Italian landscape painter, his masterful use of sfumato, mists and fog in the distance, creates places of mystery and serenity. Other times his command of color can be witnessed, as in The Fence where the fiery red-orange clouds sharply contrast with the azure sky, The use of complimentary colors in this fashion is reminiscent of Maxfield Parrish, whose work vibrated with a rich tonality and spirit.
Charles Schridde continues the long tradition of landscape artists, whose spiritual quest to become one with those observed natural gifts, freezing the splendor of a particular moment on canvas. It is in this glorification of nature and its wonder that Schridde must find his serenity, for in these vistas, God surely is in His heaven and every thing is right with the world.
